Making Your Kitchen Kid-Friendly With Kiddie Kitchen Gear

A very effective way of luring your kids into working with you in the kitchen is to have smart kiddie kitchen gadgets which are safe, attractive and seem more like toys than utensils.  A kitchen which feels like a playground is a place where kids would love to be in.

If you have trouble getting your kids near the kitchen, invest in the following kid-friendly kitchen gadgets:

Kid-sized table and chairs

Nothing discourages your kids faster than having to sit precariously on high chairs and stretch their necks high up to reach the table.  But if they have a comfy and nifty set of kiddie table and chairs, working in the kitchen would be easy and fun.

Kid-sized utensils

A set of kiddie plastic measuring spoons, rubber spatula, wooden ladle and plastic measuring cups will delight your kids.  Tiny rolling pins and wire whisks are even more fun.  Choose items which come in different colors.

Kiddie aprons

Buy your kid some cute and colorful apron.  You know this will keep his clothes from getting soiled while all he knows is that he feels like a little chef.

Cookie cutters of quirky shapes

Scour garage sales for different shapes of cookie cutters.  Kids are fascinated with cutting shapes not just out of cookies but out sandwiches, jelly and even vegetables.  If you can find cake and muffin pans of unconventional shapes, that would double the fun.

Apple cutter

Kids would be enrapt at how this little gadget chops up an apple in an amazing way.  You can also use this gadget on pears, peaches and other fruits and vegetables of similar shape.

Non-skid mixing bowl

Kids with yet poorly-developed motor skills will find a non-skid mixing bowl especially convenient.  You can count on them to stick around to doing sustained mixing and stirring when working with a bowl which won’t budge off the table.

Pastry brush

Let your child try brushing olive oil on the bread or tomato sauce on the pizza and he’ll soon be asking for more "painting jobs."

Melon baller

This very simple device is so much fun for kids.  You can let him try it on other food items.
