Your Monthly Cleaning List

On top of your daily surface cleaning and weekly deep cleaning, you need to have a monthly intensive cleaning when you turn your attention towards neglected areas of the house. The following are some of the places and items in the house which receive infrequent cleaning and thus should be treated to some serious cleaning once in a month.
Ceiling Fans
Ceiling fans have a way of accumulating dirt and dust over time. This not only makes for an ugly sight but also slows down its functioning. Because it is often way above reach, the ceiling fan is often neglected in our daily or weekly cleaning sessions. Once a month is generally enough to keep ceiling fans clean and dust-free.
Light Fixtures
Many a room has been dimmed not because of a bulb that’s about to go busted but because of dust accumulating on light fixtures and globes. Once a month, give these light fixtures some cleaning to bring back their brightness.
Dust Vents
Dust vents, if not cleaned for a long time, will soon become sources of dust instead. Dust could even blow into the rooms through dusty dust vents. At least once a month, try dusting these vents so they can function as they should.
Walls
Walls are also often neglected in ordinary cleaning times. The walls of the kitchen and dining area often have splatters, that of the kids’ rooms have crayon marks and living room walls often have furniture scuffs and dust. A monthly dusting, washing or spot-cleaning helps to keep your wall paint looking new.
Windows
Windows receive the brunt of dust and should be deep-cleaned monthly. Window panes, windowsill and window treatments should all be cleaned. Both sides of the glass windows should be thoroughly cleaned using a good glass cleaner. Window blinds need to be wiped down while curtains and drapes need to be washed.
Nooks and Crannies
Places which we normally do not pay attention to have a propensity to go dusty and musty with time. Ceilings, moldings, baseboards, the walls behind furniture and hidden corners must be dusted, wiped down or vacuumed at least once a month.
Interiors of Furniture
The depths of the sofa need to be vacuumed monthly to manage dust build-up and keep it fluffy. The insides of drawers and cabinets need some attention as well.
